Introducing our Team

Kim Fuqua - Principal Owner

Kim Fuqua, a former horse trainer and elementary school teacher, found her passion for dog sports back in 2005 with her first border collie, Dolly.  After being bitten by the “agility bug” Kim made dog training her profession and has been training professionally since 2010.

Kim has had success as a competitor by achieving multiple MACHs (AKC Master Agility Championships) on dogs and being awarded high-level placements locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally.   In 2019, Kim took Pepper, a smooth coat border collie, to AKC Nationals and placed 2nd in the highly competitive 20” division.  Later that year, they were invited to compete in the Purina Incredible Dog Challenge in Avon, CO and St Louis, MO.  In the summer of 2019, they competed internationally at the Border Collie Classic in Timmel, Germany and placing 12th in one round out of 400+ internationally ranked dogs and a clean round in the Team USA finals. They wrapped up 2019 by making the alternate list for Team USA (large dogs) for the European Open.

Kim attributes her success with Pepper to a great foundation, creating confidence through clear communication and positive reinforcement.  Kim believes that every dog/handler team can be successful, and she has a great eye to see what individual handlers and their dogs’ needs are – which will then lead to better communication.

Over the years, Kim has had the opportunity to work with all types of handlers, from basic foundation work to international level handling.  She has trained with top nationally and internationally ranked agility instructors, both in person and online.  Kim believes that no two dog/handler teams are the same and because of this and her variety of instruction, she can help teams discover what they need to be successful.

Kim’s goal is to make dog training fun for both the handler and the dog.  To facilitate this goal, she trains from her own facility in La Mesa, NM.  Additionally, she teaches online and conducts seminars.

Kim is a graduate of the Karen Pryor Academy (KPA), Certified Canine Trigger Point Massage Therapist (Ken Bain), Certified Canine Fitness Trainer (CCFT) through FITPaws, Animal Behavioral College, and a Certified Canine Massage Therapist (CCMT) through Equissage.
